I certainly welcome any reduction in tolls and have been consistently raising this for the last 10 years, because I know just how hard this hits constituents and local businesses.

I’ve always called for tolls at a level around the maintenance cost.  The Governments cut will come in two years time when the tolls could be £6.80 or more for cars.

VAT has to come off the tolls because the bridges become publicly owned in 2018, so clarity is needed about whether the announced cut is pre or post the removal of VAT.  It is important because this could mean the difference between a toll of £3.40 or £2.80 for a car. I will be looking closely at the detail, but in the meantime a very big thank you to all those constituents and local businesses who have shared their experiences on how the level of tolls has affected them -; your views have helped me keep up the pressure on the Government.
