Since the last election, electricity and gas bills have gone up by £300 a year -; that’s four times faster than wages.

Labour recently published figures showing that the number of families that can’t afford to heat their home this winter has hit a record high of one million. That’s about one in six families. That’s not the sort of record we want Britain to be breaking.

Here are four numbers you need to know on electricity and gas bills:

£300: the amount the average family’s electricity and gas bills have increased by since 2010

1.03 million: the number of families with children that can’t afford to heat their homes this Christmas

2017: how long Labour will freeze energy bills for, saving the average family £120

5 million: the number of homes that will be upgraded with better insulation under Labour’s plans to end cold homes, saving the average family over £270

Families cannot afford another five years of this Tory-led Government. Millions of families in every region would benefit from Labour’s energy price freeze and plans to end cold homes, saving hundreds of pounds each year.
