JESSICA MORDEN MP MEETS BRIGHT SPARK's AT ALWAY SCHOOL
Newport East MP Jessica Morden visited Alway Primary School to meet the pupils and staff and lend a hand with the ‘SPARK' arts education programme. Jessica Morden MP also toured the school to see the new developments including the Surestart centre being built on the site.
Jessica Morden MP said "It always a huge pleasure to meet the children in schools such as Alway and speak to the staff who are doing such a good job. There is great enthusiasm from pupils and teachers about the SPARK project which mixes fun and education around the themes of protecting the environment. It is fantastic to see barriers breaking down and young people getting engaged both in the arts and in issues which will affect their future."
Jessica went on to say "SPARK is a good example of businesses getting involved in the community and providing opportunities to do exciting and different activities. I would like to congratulate the SPARK team and the sponsors Provident Financial for the great things they are doing for young people in Newport East"
SPARK is an arts education programme run by Provident Financial working in partnership with the West Yorkshire Playhouse to link theatres and schools. Children are encouraged to succeed through stimulating arts activities. In Newport SPARK are based at the Riverfront Arts Centre in Newport, running sessions in banner-making, drama and animation.
Jessica Morden MP went on to say "During my tour of the school with the Head Teacher Mr Richard Hughes I was impressed by the exciting changes that will be happening at Alway School. The new Surestart Centre and Library which are close to completion demonstrate the major investment in education is delivering for our schools. Mr Hughes was keen to tell me how such changes help to inspire the children to achieve, and the children are keen to learn in the new facilities".
