Newport East
Caldicot School Visit the Houses of Parliament 23 April 2007
School Visit
Jessica Morden MP for Newport East welcomed pupils from Caldicot Comprehensive School yesterday on their visit to the Houses of Parliament. Twenty pupils travelled to London to see how Westminster works and meet Jessica Morden MP.
Jessica Morden MP said: "Meeting the pupils of Caldicot School and answering their questions was a great pleasure, the trip was interesting and rewarding for everyone involved. I believe it is essential that constituents have a chance to see where I carry out my Westminster duties, and learn more about how the Houses of Parliament work." The trip was organised by the schools council which is a pupil run body involved in all school decision making.
Head Teacher Mrs Gwyer-Roberts, who accompanied the pupils to Parliament, involves the schools council members in the day to day running of the school as well as organising educational visits.
Jessica Morden MP for Newport East said: "The schools council involves pupils in the running of their school and understand the complex requirements of a large organisation. Elections to the Council also introduce responsibilities and an understanding of the need to vote which I hope will become a life-time habit."
Jessica Morden MP is keen to see many groups and organisations from Newport East visit the Houses of Parliament, and is inviting groups, organisations and schools to get in touch with her office to discuss the possibility of organising a visit either by telephone (01633 841726) or email mordenj@parliament.uk
