Farepak – 5 Years On, Still No Justice 15 December 2011
Jessica secured a Westminster Hall debate in Parliament this week to debate the tragedy of Farepak. She wanted to remind the Government about the victims of Farepak and to make it clear that on the 5th anniversary of the collapse of Farepak that the victims still haven’t seen justice done, or received their money back.
She was joined by other MPs from across the political spectrum to debate the ongoing injustices and possible solutions to them. Very high on Jessica’s agenda was to put pressure on the Government to implement tough legislation on prepayment schemes, so nothing like Farepak’s demise happens again where customers lose all their money.
Jessica said “Farepak customers were on modest incomes and in 2006 their Christmas was destroyed. All their carefully saved money disappeared overnight. These are the people who did the right thing. They planned how they were going to pay for Christmas, they worked hard all year round, they paid their monthly payments and Christmas was going to be sorted. I think the Government owes it to Farepak victims to do the right thing.”
