I applaud Newport says Prime Minister Brown 23 October 2007
PM Praises Newport Eco Award
"I applaud Newport" said the Prime Minister today after Jessica Morden MP asked for the Prime Minister's acknowledgment of Newport's most recent achievement - the lowest ecological footprint in the UK.
Following his acknowledgment of Newport, the Prime Minister further applauded Jessica for her efforts in promoting energy saving week.
The Prime Minister's praise came after a recent report by the WWF placed Newport, alongside Plymouth, at the top of its greenest city league table. The report went on to commend the citizens of Newport, describing them as the best at using public transport, reducing energy waste at home and consuming more locally-produced food.
Jessica said, "I know Paul and I want to thank all Newportonians for their eco-living habits and especially the Labour controlled city council for the tremendous work they have done in enabling the city of Newport to become the top eco-friendly city in the country. This recognition is something we can all be proud of and I am sure that the people of Newport and the Council will continue their efforts in reducing the city's ecological footprint so we can remain at the top of the league table."
