MP Welcomes Drop in Crime
Jessica Morden, MP for Newport East, welcomed the recent crime figures for Wales, which shows a 6% drop in Wales and a very pleasing 9% drop in Gwent.
The crime figures come from an annual report which is based on two sources of date, the British Crime Survey (BCS) and police recorded crime data, making it one of the most comprehensive sources of information about crime.
Jessica said "It is great news. I believe these results shows the effectiveness of neighbourhood policing, amongst other initiatives, which was taken up by the Gwent Force a full year ahead of the scheduled roll out across the UK. I like to thank the police but also people who live in Newport East. Without your support for the neighbourhood police scheme it would have been less effective."
Any crime is of course too much but it is particularly pleasing to see drops in violent incidents by individuals, - 12.7%, robberies, -11.7%, vehicle crime, -16%, and fraud and forgery offences of -30.4%.
