MP PRESSES FOR BETTER BUS SERVICES

Jessica is seeking to improve the levels of public transport between Newport and Caldicot and the Penhow area. A new bus company, Veolia Transport has just taken over the routes and a number of constituents have expressed concern about the loss of an early morning service; and the fact that the service ceases after 6pm.

Jessica Morden MP said: “I have been approached by a number of constituents expressing concern about bus services between Newport and Caldicot and in the Penhow area. They are very concerned about the loss of an early morning service which a lot of people use to get to work; and that the area is effectively left without a bus service after 6pm.

The UK Government and the Welsh Assembly Government are working hard to encourage people to leave their cars at home and use public transport. To do that we need to ensure that there are regular and reliable links to rural areas such as Penhow and Caldicot. I have written to Veolia Transport expressing my concerns about the level of services provided but have yet to receive a response. I will continue to press the case for better public transport links in these areas”
