Newport East
Weekly Round Up 12 November 2007
There are always lots of events going on in the Constituency of Newport East every weekend, organised by community organisations, religious groups, chaities, local authorities and individuals dedicated to making a difference in the area. I am very privileged to be invited to many of them, and try to attend as many as possible.
Last weekend I was very honoured to attend a number of fantastic events;
Friday evening I took up my first official engagement as Honorary Vice President of the City of Newport Male Choir when I attended the Choir's Annual Concert at St Patrick's Church. The evening delivered some beautiful music and soloist Samantha Talbot from Betws was outstanding. My very favourite hymn, Gwahoddiad, was included in the programme and I admit I shed a tear or two during the performance.
On Saturday I was present at the Church and Community Together Conference at Duckpool Road Baptist Church. This fantastic event brought together representatives from the Churches across Newport to look how they can reach out to the wider community and really make a difference.

Sunday was of course Remembrance Day and I was once again honoured to lay a wreath during the Rememberance Ceremony in Newport. It is a very special day in the calendar and I am both proud and humbled to be part of a local and national act of commemoration which remembers and gives thanks to the many that lost their lives to protect the freedom that we have.
