Situation in Cameroon

In Foreign Office questions today I raised concerns about the humanitarian situation in Cameroon.

I said “A constituent of mine who sought asylum here from Cameroon has been highlighting the ongoing violence and brutality committed by the Government in the Anglophone regions, and the acute refugees crisis that this has caused. I know the department has been raising this, but what more can Ministers do to help in getting a meaningful process to address the issues and end the violence?”

In response, the Government’s Minister of State for Africa Harriet Baldwin MP responded by acknowledging the severity of the situation, and criticised the violence. She said that the UK Government was encouraging the Cameroonian Government and people to participate in ‘inclusive dialogue’ ahead of the country’s Presidential Election later this year.
