This week I was delighted to host a drop-in event in Parliament for MPs with constituency links to GFG Alliance steel sites across the UK. GFG Alliance CEO Sanjeev Gupta (pictured) gave me an update on their innovative work at Liberty Steel and Uskmouth in Newport.

The GFG Alliance -; and their offshoot companies Liberty House Steel and SIMEC – have a long term, sustainable industrial strategy and are actively investing in steel, power and in downstream industries. This is all built around a ‘GREENSTEEL’ vision which is seeing them working towards producing steel made from recycled scrap metal powered by renewable power. This is an important addition to the traditional steel making industry, and it’s good to see the company continuing to invest in Newport and utilise our local skills base
