Many congratulations to Eleri Thomas on becoming the new Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent.

Eleri, a former head of Save The Children in Wales, was awarded an MBE in 2009 for her services to children and young people. She led a national stakeholder group on child sexual exploitation which co-ordinated the UK submission to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, and has extensive experience in dealing with Welsh Government, Police Forces, local authorities and health boards to push for improved outcomes for the most vulnerable individuals in our society.

I wish Eleri all the best in her new role, and look forward to supporting the work that she and our PCC Jeff Cuthbert undertake; pushing for effective local police services, tackling anti-social behaviour, and ensuring support is in place for victims of crime across Gwent.
