Following the sad passing of long-serving councillor Ed Townsend, a by-election will be held in St Julians this Thursday.

I would encourage local residents to vote for our Welsh Labour candidate, Phil Hourahine.

Phil was born and raised in St Julians, and still lives in the area. Phil will work tirelessly on behalf of all residents in the ward, and has already set out some of his key priorities, including his commitment to working with the Police to tackle anti-social behaviour and pushing for investment and regeneration of the Caerleon Road and Riverside areas.

Speaking about Phil’s campaign Cllr Debbie Wilcox, Labour leader of Newport City Council, said: “Phil is a local person who has great experience both professionally and personally to bring to the role of councillor, and he will be a great advocate for the residents of St Julians. As a former resident of the ward myself, I know that Phil will engage with every part of the area and deal with everyday concerns in an efficient and responsible manner. He will make a great contribution to the wider Labour team in St Julians and in Newport City Council.”

Remember to vote for Phil & Labour this Thursday.
