I was pleased to be able to attend the International Women’s Day event at Kings Church on Sunday.  It was a chance to celebrate the work that women do in the community.

International Women’s Day is also a day to celebrate how far we’ve come in the fight for women’s equality, but also recognise how much more there is to do.

For the last 5 years we’ve had a government whose decisions have made life harder for women all across the country. The average family is now £1,600 a year worse off, over a quarter of women are on low pay, tax and benefit changes have hit families hardest and childcare costs have increased by 33 per cent in the last five years.

With just under two months to go, it’s vital every woman starts thinking about how their lives will benefit under a Labour government. Boosting family finances by raising the minimum wage, tackling long-term unemployment with our jobs guarantee, increasing support for childcare and taking action on equal pay.

So if you want a Labour Government that delivers for women

1. Make sure you’re registered to vote — if you’re not, do it now (it takes just five minutes): https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

2. Talk to your friends, family and colleagues about why you’re going to vote in May — and tell them why they need to get out and vote too.

3. And finally, on May 7, go vote and help others to as well!

Let’s make 2015 the year we move women’s equality forward.
