Lliswerry church reopens following repair work

St Andrew’s Church, Somerton Road, Liswerry held an open day to its parish after a 4 year refurbishment.
A NEWPORT church reopened its doors yesterday, after being closed for four years.
St Andrew’s Church, Nash Road, was forced to close after it was found to have dry rot. The church was left with the huge task of fundraising £50,000 to pay for the vital work needed for repair work. Since August of last year, £47,000 has been raised for the 132-year-old building. This has been collected through a combination of private and corporate donations, jumble sales and bucket collections.
Over the past four years the Anglican Lliswerry church has held had to hold services in its church hall or at its daughter church St Phillip’s. But with the work inside is now complete and the first service was held yesterday. (SUN)
Churchwarden, Jan Stroud, said: “It was the first service since our re-dedication. It was very good and there was good attendance. It’s like coming home.”
The rededication service took place last Thursday. Jessica Morden MP, John Griffiths AM, and the Bishop of Monmouth, Richard Pain, were all in attendance.
