News that a temporary processing unit is being created in Newport is good news but we want permanent jobs so Jessica and Paul have written a joint letter to the Home Secretary this week

26 June 2014

Dear Secretary of State,

 Newport Passport Office

In 2010 the decision was made to take processing out of Newport West and in 2011 this was implemented.  Quite apart from the loss of experience from the department, 150 jobs were taken out of the economy of Newport.

The last few weeks has demonstrated there is a need for urgent action to be taken and we note that Home Office staff will be temporarily processing work in Nexus House.   We are writing to you to ask that you consider permanently reinstating those jobs to Newport as soon as possible.

The reinstatement of the jobs would be a boost for Newport, the current staff who are suffering stress caused by the workload and to the customers who are facing unacceptable delays.

Thank you for your help in this matter.  Welook forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

 Yours sincerely

Paul Flynn MP                                   Jessica Morden MP
