Over the last few weeks many Ringland residents contacted me about the imminent cancellation of the 62 bus service. The petition, as well as comments I received, highlighted how strongly people object to the stopping of this vital service.
I forwarded a petition, as well as other concerns raised, to the Managing Director at Newport Transport Limited (the company in charge of Newport Bus), Mr Scott Pearson. I asked that he provide a response to the concerns raised.
Mr Pearson has advised me that the responsibility for commissioning the service lies with the Integrated Transport Unit (ITU) at Newport City Council; therefore the petition has been forwarded to them. He did however confirm the following:
“When the service 62 stops in this area, the service 73 will be redirected to serve Beatty Road thus giving the residents of this area a bus service equivalent to what they have now.”
The 73 service will now include the Treberth area, operating outbound from Newport via the following stops:
- Chepstow Road
- Treberth Crescent
- Treberth Avenue
- Benbow Road
- Hawkins Crescent
- Llanwern Road, back onto Chepstow Road. The inbound service from Chepstow will operate in reverse.
I have copied the timetable for the 73 service below as I hope people will find it useful. Please note that the (*) symbol indicates when the 73 service will divert via Treberth.
