disabled_people_debate_oct14edit.jpg

This week I took part in a debate initiated by Labour on the impact of the Coalition Government’s polices on disabled people.  The debate was called after remarks by the Tory Minister, Lord Freud, when he suggested that disabled people are not “worth” the full minimum wage.

I know from my surgeries in Newport East just how hard hit many disabled constituents are.  People are often hit by multiple changes imposed by the Coalition Government, leading to a cumulative impact.

This was a point I have made in a number of recent debates on Work Capability Assessments, the Personal Independence Payment, and the Bedroom Tax.

You can see a record of what I said in this week’s debate here.
