If re-elected as MP for Newport East, here are my pledges for Caldicot, Undy, Magor, Rogiet and the villages.  If re-elected I will continue to work hard to be a local, accessible and active MP.

1. Labour has pledged to scrap the Severn Bridge Tolls – I have a track record of campaigning on the impact of the tolls on local commuters and businesses, and I will continue to do so.

2. I will continue to support local rail groups such as the Severn Tunnel Action Group (STAG) for better facilities and capacity on services as we approach the new franchise; and the Magor Action Group on Rail (MAGOR) who will continue to receive my full backing for a new walkway station.

3. I will continue to raise the impact of Tory police cuts locally.  I have consistently spoken up for constituents and Police officers in Parliament here and here.  Welsh Labour has pledged 853 new police officers for Wales and has stepped in to fund an extra 500 Community and Support Officers across Wales.

4. I am committed to working for a sensible Brexit for Newport East, one that protects jobs, workers’ rights and environmental standards.

5. Caldicot will have a new state of the art school and facilities thanks to the Labour Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools programme.  I will continue to stand up and fight for important infrastructure for our communities as Severnside grows.

6. I will continue to work with local businesses like the Magor Brewery, and continue to stand up for steel in Parliament. I will continue to work with steel workers, their unions and the industry to support the long-term future of our local steel industry.  Unlike the Tories, the Welsh Labour Government stepped in in difficult times to support the steel industry and Labour has pledged to work to end the dumping of state-subsidised goods on our markets, and is committed to a procurement process that supports the British steel industry.  As an active member of the all party steel group, I have regularly spoken on this in Parliament.

7. I will continue to speak up for constituents hit by the Tory Government’s policies, including the WASPI women hit by Tory pension changes, changes to disabled people’s benefits, and have voted against the Bedroom Tax and tax credit cuts.

8. Since 2015 I’ve dealt with 4,782 cases and enquiries from constituents and have kept people up to date with my work via Facebook, Twitter, regular email bulletins and through local media including the South Wales Argus.  I will continue to work hard to help represent the people of Newport East.

9. I will continue to hold and advertise regular surgeries in Caldicot and Magor with Undy which are accessible to all, and attend and support our wonderful local community groups and activities.
