Jessica Morden Jessica Morden - Labour MP for Newport East, Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Commons and PPS to Keir Starmer
In Parliament today I called for MPs to be given more chances to question Government Ministers on the roll-out of Universal Credit.
Universal Credit was rolled out in Newport in November 2017 and is due to be rolled out in Monmouthshire this June.
Speaking in Business Questions today, I said “As Universal Credit is rolled out across more of the country, will the Leader of the House ensure that we have more regular opportunities to question Ministers and to tell them what is happening on the ground? In Newport, where the roll-out started in November, we have seen a threefold increase in food parcels, mostly attributed to Universal Credit, and Ministers need to hear that.”
