Jessica Morden Jessica Morden - Labour MP for Newport East, Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Commons and PPS to Keir Starmer
Today our NHS turns 70.
The founding principle of the NHS is a simple one which has stood the test of time – that everyone should have access to healthcare in a time of need, regardless of their ability to pay.
As a Labour MP I count the creation of a National Health Service as one of my party’s greatest achievements, and I am incredibly proud that the NHS has its roots here in Gwent.
In marking the 70th anniversary of the creation of the NHS, we should pay tribute to the incredible work of NHS staff who are there for us all year round, and honour it by defending its founding principle whenever necessary.
