Last night we commemorated the sacrifices of the Chartists at the annual evening ceremony at St Woolos. Roses were laid and speeches made at the candlelit memorial for those who died at the Westgate.

From the Chartist Convention to the Newport Rising Festival – including the People’s March and the commemoration – it’s been a fantastic and moving week for Newport as we remember those who fought for the vote and our city’s role in an important milestone for our democracy.
