county championship returns to Newport

County Championship cricket will return to Newport in 2019 after a 54 year absence when Glamorgan take on Gloucestershire at Spytty Park in a four day contest in May.

Following the merger of the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire clubs in 1934, Newport played host to 27 first-class Glamorgan matches, and other Gwent grounds such as Ebbw Vale and Abergavenny were also added to the home fixture list.

It’s fantastic to see first-class cricket returning to Newport – another boost for our city’s proud sporting reputation.
