Before Parliament was prorogued this week it was great to get the backing of fellow Gwent, Welsh and Steel APPG MPs in the campaign in support of the Orb & all who work there.

We need the Government to adopt a long-term vision for the steel industry – one that recognises the potential for the industry as well as the challenges it faces. Orb closing would represent a tragic example of huge potential being squandered. This is the only plant in the UK that produces the high-quality electrical steels that can form part of the supply chain for electric vehicles. With investment and support, Orb could be powering the huge growth in electric vehicles we expect to see over the next decade. We simply can’t afford to lose these opportunities, nor the skill-sets of the dedicated workforce at Orb in Newport.
