Animal Welfare Manifesto
Animal Welfare Manifesto

๐Ÿ”ดA number of residents have asked me about Labour’s policies on animal welfare and I’m really pleased we have produced a dedicated animal welfare manifesto.

During my time as your MP I have raised a number of animal welfare issues with ministers on behalf of constituents: from speaking out against the badger cull and the ivory trade, to the well-being of domestic, farmed and wild animals across the UK. I’ve also engaged regularly with fantastic groups protecting animals inย our area – including the RSPCA, RSPB and Gwent Wildlife Trust.ย ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฆก๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฆ

๐Ÿ”ดI believe we have a moral duty to treat the animals we share our planet with in a humane and compassionate way. No other major political party has such a proven track record of decisive action for animals at home, on farms and in the wild.

๐ŸŒนLabour’s Animal Welfare manifesto contains a number of key recommendations to drive up welfare standards for farmed, domestic and wild animals. These include:

โœ…Strengthening the Hunting Act, introduced by the UK Labour Government, and closing loopholes that allow for the illegal hunting of foxes, deer and hare – including making all illegal hunting and crime a reportable offenceย ๐ŸฆŠ๐ŸฆŒ๐Ÿ‡
โœ…Enshrining the principle of animal sentience in UK law๐Ÿ“œ
โœ…Removing two-tier sentencing for animal cruelty so all that animals – whether domestic, under human control or wild – are protected by the same five year maximum sentence for animal crueltyโš–๏ธ
โœ…A ban on live exports for slaughter and fattening๐Ÿš›
โœ…A commitment to the Blue Belt to protect and enhance our marine environment and more.๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŸ
