The COVID-19 outbreak has placed significant pressure on our local foodbanks. Here’s some information from Trussell Trust, Raven House Trust and Caldicot Foodbank on how you can support their work at this challenging time. Please share with family and friends.
Trussell Trust in Newport are currently short of the following items:
- Long-life Milk
- Tinned tomatoes
- Small jars of coffee
- Cereal (not porridge)
- Toilet Rolls
- Shower Gel
Donations can be delivered to Christchurch Centre, Old Malpas Rd, Newport, NP20 5PP (behind the fire station and Ibis Budget Hotel). Opening hours are Monday – Friday from 9am-5pm.
Monetary donations can be made on line via: https://newport.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/donate-money/
It is worth noting that at present if you need support from Trussell Trust you cannot collect food parcels from the Christchurch Centre in person, but if you have no food and are in need of a parcel you should contact one of the referring agencies such as the Job Centre, your Housing Association or support worker.
For more information visit: https://newport.foodbank.org.uk/
Anybody needing a food parcel can email CaldicotFoodbank@Yahoo.co.uk, or by messaging the group on Facebook (search for ‘Caldicot Foodbank’).
Collection points for the foodbank are in place at ASDA, Co-op (in Magor and Caldicot) and Waitrose. If you have several items to donate but feel uncomfortable about leaving them in the collection points you can also contact the foodbank through the email address above.
RAVEN HOUSE TRUST
Raven House Trust (RHT) have had to close their shop on Cromwell Road, but they intend to keep their food bank running for as long as possible – albeit with reduced opening hours in the week.
However, collection points for canned and non-perishable food donations are up and running – see information poster below.
