This u-turn from the Government is welcome if overdue. I pay tribute to the campaigners who have highlighted this injustice, and the Labour frontbench team – including my Gwent colleague Nick Thomas-Symonds MP, the Shadow Home Secretary – for the pressure they have exerted on government ministers in Parliament this week.

Keir Starmer is absolutely right to say that this is a victory for common decency, and for all of our healthcare workers who have gone above and beyond the line of duty to look after us all during the pandemic.
