Despite being on the call list for Questions to the Minister for Women and Equalities, time ran out before I was able to ask my question.
Many #NewportEast constituents have gotten in touch about the fact that the Government’s Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) has #excluded the newly self-employed.
However, the scheme also discriminates against self-employed women who have taken maternity leave in the previous 3 years.
If called, I would have urged the Government to follow recommendations put forward by Chwarae Teg to extend and expand the support available to include the newly self-employed as well as account for maternity and paternity leave in SEISS calculations.
