Our Police have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic – putting themselves at risk to protect the public.
There was nothing for the Police in the Budget this week, with officers & staff facing a real-terms pay-cut and no new money to address damaging cuts to the frontline over the last decade.
The police workforce has 23,824 less personnel than it did in 2010, and police forces face a £1.6bn real-terms gap in overall funding when compared to 2010-11.
As I said in the the recent debate on the inadequate Police Grant for 2021, Gwent Police and forces across the country have had a raw deal for far too long and deserve better than they are getting from this government. Read more here.
