Jessica Morden Jessica Morden - Labour MP for Newport East, Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Commons and PPS to Keir Starmer
In Parliament today I highlighted that bereaved parents of children who died as a result of the Contaminated Blood scandal are still being left out of support schemes.
Speaking in Business Questions, I said: “Last month’s announcement on compensation for victims of the contaminated blood scandal was welcome but there’s still no provision in support schemes for bereaved parents like the Smiths from Newport, who tragically lost their son Colin aged just 7 after he was infected with blood from Arkansas prison. So can we have an opportunity to discuss compensation schemes and impress on Cabinet Office ministers the need to include and crucially acknowledge bereaved parents?”
In response, Commons leader Jacob Rees Mogg MP said that government ministers would be meeting with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Haemophilia and Contaminated Blood to provide an update on what is happening around the ongoing inquiry into the scandal and to give reassurance that the matter is being taken seriously.
