Jessica Morden Jessica Morden - Labour MP for Newport East, Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Commons and PPS to Keir Starmer

During Business Questions in the House of Commons on November 25th, I asked the Leader of the House to allocate some time for the House to debate the recent report by the Public Accounts Committee into the benefits system during the pandemic.
The report highlights, amongst other things how the DWP lost control of Universal Credit, resulting in huge levels of fraud, including a reported £638 million mass identity hijacked by organised crime groups, which meant ten thousand genuine claimants had their benefits stopped or were asked to repay at huge cost.
