Jessica Morden MP Labour MP for Newport East

The Welsh steel industry is vital to the whole of the UK economy, to our country’s infrastructure and to our national defence. To contemplate the UK as the only G20 country without its own virgin steel-making capacity is shortsighted at best from the Tory government.
In my Newport East, much of which was built around the Llanwern plant, the steelworks offers good quality, highly-skilled, well-paid jobs, with the average age of a worker there in the mid-30s. I spoke up for them, and the many thousands like them in the Westminster Hall debate on the future of steel in Wales today.
