As part of the Crime and Policing Bill that’s currently working its way through Parliament, the UK Government has launched a consultation into proposals to give police the power to crush e-bikes, quads and e-scooters and other vehicles that are being used anti-socially within 48 hours of them being seized. Currently police forces have to wait 14 days.
These measures, I know, will be welcome news for constituents in Newport East, who regularly share their thoughts on the use of e-scooters with me – often a source of great anxiety in the city.
I introduced the E-scooters (Review and Awareness) Bill to the Commons in November last year, making the case that our legislation on the vehicles lags behind other countries, so today is a great step forward in ensuring legislation across the UK is keeping up.
