Keir Starmer stands behind a Fairer, Greener, Future sign

Keir Starmer this morning set out plans for the biggest-ever transfer of power from Westminster to the British people with radical plans for higher standards, wider devolution and better growth.

This is all part of Keir’s wider plan to build an economy not just for the many not the few but by the many and of the many.

Labour will reignite our economy by empowering our towns, cities regions and nations to work together on local growth plans with new powers over skills, transport, planning and culture, all helping to drive growth by developing hundreds of new clusters of economic activity.

Labour will rebuild trust by reforming our centre of government – cleaning up sleaze in Westminster, creating formal partnerships between central Government and devolved authorities and replacing the unelected House of Lords with a new, smaller, cheaper, and democratically elected second chamber to represent the regions and nations of the UK and act as custodians of change.

Labour will reunite our country with new missions based on our shared values and priorities, cooperating to tackle climate change and address inequality. And Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and the regions of England will have a new status and a new voice, in a reformed and modern United Kingdom.

The details of how to build and implement this vision is now rightly a matter of public consultation. We will make common cause with people in every part of the country who want to build this Fairer Greener Future.
